JoAnn Burgess Jenkins, age 84, of Ellenboro, passed away Friday, November 27, 2020 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
JoAnn was born April 23, 1936 in Rutherford County to the late Joe Burgess and Bessie Davis Burgess. She was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1954 and graduated from Appalachian State University in 1958. She taught at Chase High School for over thirty-five years before her retirement. JoAnn was a dedicated teacher and loved her students and touched many lives during her career. She was a member of Henrietta First Baptist Church and enjoyed shopping, playing bingo and gardening. She loved her family and was loved by all who knew her. She especially loved playing with her great-granddaughter, Avie Jo. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-one years, Frank “Pug” Jenkins and two brothers, Dennis and David Burgess.
Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Jody Jenkins (Cindy) and daughter, Beate` Jenkins all of Ellenboro; granddaughter, Brooke Thompson (Cody) of Mooresboro and two great-grandchildren, Avie Jo and Wade Thompson.
A private funeral service will be conducted with Mr. Jerry Pannell and Reverend Lanny J. Funchess officiating. Friends may pay their respects on Monday from 12:00 pm until 5:00 pm and on Tuesday from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private at Race Path Baptist Church Cemetery.
