Joe Dycus, age 63, of West Zion Church Road, Shelby, NC, died Monday, August 20, 2012 at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Joe was born August 8, 1949 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Joe Henry Dycus, Sr. and Betty Louise Turner Dycus. He worked in textiles for 20 years and for Jenkins Food Processing for many years. He was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church. He enjoyed NASCAR, Carolina Panthers, repairing small engines and fishing. He loved having cookouts and making homemade ice cream. He never met a stranger and had a desire to help others.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Tonya Lynn Dycus and one sister, Hannah Brown.
Survivors include his wife of almost 45 years, Carolyn Morgan Dycus; two daughters, Penny Dycus Boyd and Melissa Dycus Stroup and husband, Jason all of Shelby; one brother, Larry Dycus of Caroleen; three grandchildren, Heather Michelle Boyd, Randy Todd Boyd and Tyler Cody Dycus; two great-grandchildren, Mallory Kay Sparks and McKenzie Lynn Sparks.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 24, 2012 at Grace Baptist Church in Henrietta with Pastor Lanny J. Funchess officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
