John Edwards, Jr.

John Albert Edwards, Jr., age 67, of Ellenboro, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Forest City.

John was born January 3, 1952 in Cleveland County to the late John Albert Edwards, Sr. and Betty Jones Edwards. He was a graduate of East High School, class of 1971 and worked for Kerion and AFA Plastics for many years. He also worked for Fieldcrest Mill for seventeen years. John served with the Ellenboro Volunteer Fire Department for forty years and was with the North Carolina Crime Control since 1992. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was a motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed welding and playing softball.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Cathy Lynn Smith and Wilma Diane Bridges.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of forty-three years, Linda Diane Edwards; daughter, Teresa Jones Clapp and husband, Tommy of Mebane, NC; son, Daniel Wayne Edwards and wife, Tabitha of Ellenboro; brother, Kenneth Ray Edwards of Ellenboro. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Aleana Craven (Tyler), Amber Cates, Sabrina Pitts (Makaidrin), Logan Edwards and three great-grandchildren, Meri, Mavis and Madyn Craven.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Michael Sepaugh officiating with honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Firefighters Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
