John Ray Gettys, age 77, of Ellenboro, died Thursday, December 31, 2015 at the Mary Black Health System in Gaffney.
Born June 25, 1938 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Bill Gettys and Nannie Sue Morehead Gettys. He worked for Hamrick Mills-Musgrove Plant for many years and in textiles total of forty-five years before retirement. He was a faithful member of Campfield Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, trustee, Sunday School Secretary and a member of the Carolina Faith Riders Ministry. He was an avid Go Kart Racing enthusiast and enjoyed racing and working on Go Karts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-one years, Gladys Toney Gettys and an infant grandson, Ethan Michael Gettys.
Survivors include son, Mike Gettys and wife, Melissa of Ellenboro; brother, Bobby Gettys, Sr. and wife, Carol also of Ellenboro; uncle, Clifford Gettys of Hendersonville, NC. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Amy Murray and husband, Adam, Jason Gettys and Matthew Gettys all of Ellenboro; two great-grandchildren, Addison and Anslee Murray.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 4, 2015 at the Campfield Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend Scott Huffman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service time at the church.
