Johnny Fay Greene, age 77, of Rutherfordton, died Monday, September 7, 2015 at the Charles George VA Medical Center.
Born September 27, 1937 in York County, SC, he was a son of the late Clyde Alexander Greene and Julie Mae White Greene. He was a fifteen year veteran of the US Army and a Purple Heart recipient, having served his country during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Johnny worked for Stonecutter Mill as an electrician for twenty-one years and also for Fast Foods for several years. He attended Holly Springs Baptist Church and was a ham radio operator. Johnny enjoyed camping, listening to blue grass music and working on his computer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by one son, John Thomas Greene; one sister, Jean Payton; two brothers, J.C. Greene and Eldin Greene.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Jolaine W. Greene; daughter, Cathy Faye Cash and husband, Ronsal of Rutherfordton; grandson, Ronnie Lee Cash, Jr.; brother, Bill Green and wife, Louise of Marietta, SC; two sisters, Jackie Poteat and husband, Wayne of Spartanburg and Judy Greene and husband, Desi of Cliffside. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at two o'clock on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ad Hopper and Reverend Tim Hodge officiating. Interment will follow in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
