Joyce Wilson Addington, age 88, a long time resident of Big Island Road, Rutherfordton, NC, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC.
Joyce was born December 23, 1924 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Ernest Wilson and Ollie Smith Wilson. She worked as a beautician for over fifteen years and was a member of Arrowood Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Jessie Adkins, Adelaide Wilson and Edna Strickland; two half-brothers, Fred Williams, Jr. and Phillip Wilson and half-sister, Ernestine Stuckey.
Joyce married the love of her life, Luther Addington on August 27, 1945. They were married for 59 years and lived in the home Luther built for them on Big Island Road for almost fifty years. Luther passed away in 2004.
Joyce is survived by cousins, Reba Smith, Tim Smith and wife, Betty and Libby Parton; one niece, Jackie Bush and husband, George; one brother in-law, I.G. Addington and wife, Jo. She is also survived by long-time neighbors Danny and Jane Lee and their children.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m., Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Broad River Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Phillip Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Monday at Harrelson Funeral Home.
