Joyce Shires

Joyce Shires, age 82, of Rutherfordton, passed away Friday, July 21, 2023 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Joyce was born Thursday, January 23, 1941 in Montford Cove, NC to the late Roland Elijah Hill and Gertie Fincannon Hill. She was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1959 and the owner and operator of Country Heart Braiding. Joyce was a current member of Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church. Her passion was her family. She loved every minute spent with her children and grandchildren. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Floyd Hill, Ruth Womick, Grace McDaniel and Howard Hill.

     Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of sixty-two years, Jerry Shires; daughters, Rhonda Medford of Rutherfordton, Suzanne Shires of Edneyville, NC, Lynn Ormand of Forest City and son, Tony Shires of Forest City; grandchildren, Andy Upton (Taylor), Jacob Evans (April Wells), Seth Medford, Aaron Medford, Kaitlyn Shires, Mallory Shires, Alyssa Shires and a great-grandson, Sawyer Reid Upton.

     A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 25^th at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Reverend Mike Cash and Reverend George Whitmire officiating.
