Kenneth Byrd

Kenneth A. Byrd, age 84, of Rutherfordton, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020 at his residence.

Kenneth was born March 6, 1936 in Yancey County, NC to the late Ernest Byrd and Ruby Silvers Byrd. He was a graduate of Caldwell Community Technical College. Kenneth worked for fifty years as a construction supervisor and fifteen years for Thompson Contractors. Kenneth was a faithful member of Piedmont Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee and on the Cemetery Board. He enjoyed traveling, taking motorcycle trips, and watching NASCAR.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Proffitt and brother, Lloyd Byrd.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sandra Dobbins Byrd; son, Keith Byrd (Angie) of Rutherfordton; stepdaughters, Tammy Nichols and Tina Yelton (Jeff) all of Forest City; sister, Sheila Deyton (J.C.) of Burnsville, NC; brother-in-law, Gene King of Rutherfordton and sister-in-law, Barbara Byrd of Apex, NC;  nephews, Rodney Proffitt, Michael Byrd and niece, Jeannie Rizzo. He is also survived by five step-grandchildren, Blake, Megan, Aubree, Austin, Anna-Leigh and ten step great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Piedmont Baptist Church with Reverend Ad Hopper and Reverend Allen Hall officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
