Kenneth Lyton Hughes, age 92, of 1600 Harris-Henrietta Road, Forest City, NC, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the Hospice House. He was born in Rutherford County January 24, 1917 to the late Benjamin Elsberry Hughes and Mary Ramouth Hawkins Hughes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Allen Hughes, three sisters and five brothers.
Kenneth had worked for Burlington Industries for 43 years as a loom fixer before his retirement. He was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church and was a member of Sandy Mush Baptist Church for the last ten years. He was a member of the Cliffside Masonic Lodge # 460 and a 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite. He was a Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star and a member of the Oasis Shrine and a member of the Hillbilly Clan #2. He and his late wife were also members of the Rutherford County Dance Club.
He is survived by two sons, Arnold Hughes and his wife, Margaret, of Chesnee, SC and Steve Hughes and his wife, Donna, of Rutherfordton, NC; one daughter, Phyllis Elmore of Shreveport, LA; one sister, Mary McCurry of Ellenboro, seven grandchildren, Sheri Vick, Vicki Bostic, Kenny Hughes, Michele Elmore, Kimberly Todd, Jonathan Elmore, and Steven Hughes; 16 great grandchildren, Stephen, Adam, Jenna, Kiley and Jacob Hughes, Trey and Paige Bostic, Jamin and Madison Elmore, Christopher Hebert ,Aiden Travers, Isabella and Gracie Todd, and Aaron, Lydia, and Sarah Vick. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
