Lee Upton

Lee Daniel 'L.D.' Upton, age 86, of Crawley Drive, Forest City, NC, died Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Lee was born October 10, 1925 in Rutherford County, NC to the late William Upton and Carmie Flack Upton. He was a graduate of Sunshine High School and worked for Cone Mills for thirty years before his retirement. He also worked as a security officer for Burlington Industries. He was a member of the Cliffside Masonic Lodge No. 460 and a longtime member of Caroleen United Methodist Church. He loved woodworking and building items for his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Betty Quinn Upton; two daughters, Star Coffey and husband, Michael of Forest City and Pam Waters and husband, Mark of Shiloh Community; one son, Bobby Upton and wife Anna of Spindale; one brother, Dwight Upton of Marion. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Janet Champion, Alicia Coffey, Kenneth Upton, Brian Upton, Kyle Waters and Kayla Waters; three step-grandchildren, Robert Burke, Jonathan Burke, Jerry Burke, Jr. and four great grandchildren, Xavier Champion, Cayden Ramsey, Lainee Ramsey and Devan Ramsey.
