Lewis Gerald Blankenship, Sr., age 68, of Jaynes Road, Forest City, NC, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Hospice House.
Lewis was born May 13, 1943 in Wyoming County, West Virginia to the late John Duff Blankenship and Nettie Marie Browning Blankenship. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked as an electrician for the Island Creek Mining Company for over 20 years and served as the president of the local coal workers union. He also served as president of the Trapper's Association and was a volunteer fire fighter. He enjoyed music, fishing, hunting and researching his family's genealogy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Doris MacWilliams, Amy Blankenship, Allie Hatfield, Arlene Walls; two brothers, Danny Blankenship and Arley Blankenship.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Jean Blankenship; the mother of his children, Nancy Carol Blankenship of Randleman, NC; two daughters, Belvia Marie Harper and husband, William and Amy Gail Henry and husband, Jason all of Randleman; two sons, Lewis Gerald Blankenship, Jr. of Asheboro, NC and John Victor Blankenship and wife, Tina of Randleman; three step-daughters, Della Marie New of Gilbert, W. VA., Clarrisa Harvey and husband, Brian of Eva, AL and Amy Hannah of Forest City; three step-sons, Gerald Hannah, Randolph Hannah and Carey Hannah all of Forest City. He is also survived by two brothers, Alton Blankenship of Rio Grande, Ohio and Lonnie Blankenship of Little Rock, Arkansas; 18 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
