Louene "Lou" Lane

Louene “Lou” Lane, age 86, of Union Mills, passed away Monday, September 5, 2022, at Accordius Health in Rutherfordton.

Lou was born Saturday, March 28, 1936, in Rutherford County to the late Lewis Thomas and Meldora Mills Thomas. She worked in textiles for many years for Cone Mills before retirement. Lou was a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church and loved spending time with her grand and great grandchildren. She enjoyed taking care of her cats and dogs, riding four wheelers, sewing, going to dirt track races and was a Jeff Gordon fan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J R Lane;  four brothers, Kenneth E. Thomas, George W. Thomas, William Vance Thomas and Clayton Thomas.

Left to cherish fond memories are her sons, Grayling J. Lane (Anna) and Randy Lee Lane (Sharon) all of Union Mills; brother, Charles Thomas of Forest City; sisters, Linda Bailey (Bobby) of Forest City, Martha Thomas Philbeck of Shelby, Mildred Campbell of New Bern, NC. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Travis Lane, Josh Lane, Robert Fowler, Nathan Hall (Rena), Floyd Tate, April Lane and eleven great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Tony McCraw officiating. Interment will follow in Camp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
