Lydia Mae Vess Greene, age 90, formerly of Forest City, NC, died Saturday, August 27, 2011 at her residence in Charlotte.
Lydia was born October 28, 1920 in High Shoals Township, Rutherford County, NC to the late Mearil Lee Roy Vess and Luvie Alice Blanton Vess. She worked at the Alexander Mill as a spinner, then as an alteration lady for A.V. Wray & Sons and a seamstress for Tanners until her retirement. She was a dedicated member of Alexander Baptist Church, until it was sold, and then upon moving in with her daughter, Joann Riggs, she joined Derita Baptist Church of Charlotte. Among several crafts, she enjoyed quilting, crochet, needle point and especially flower gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.O. Greene; one brother, Reverend Troy Vess and two sisters, Zella Vess Gordon and Ruth Vess Tyler.
Survivors include three daughters, Joann Riggs of Charlotte, Joyce Brasington, and husband, Richard of Concord and Janice McGlen of Lowell. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Kimberly Eubanks and husband, Eddie, Pamela Jo Hursey, Renee Brasington Cheesman and husband, Larry, and Shannon McGlen McElveen; eight great grandchildren, Andy Eubanks, Katie Eubanks, Cory Eubanks, Elijah Hursey, Cheyenne Cheesman, T.J. Early, Cyndal Early, and Mindy Lunsford; one great-great grandchild, Michael Alexander Eubanks and several nieces and nephews.
