Mallie 'Polly' Sue Owens Cole, age 96, of Skyview Ave., Forest City, NC, died Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Hospice House.
Mallie was born April 5, 1916 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Joseph D. Owens and Sarah Sisk Owens. Mallie was a graduate of Harris High School and was a sixty-three year charter member of Sulphur Springs Congregational Holiness Church. She enjoyed her church wand was busy teaching Sunday school, singing in the church quartet and being a wonderful pastor's wife. She also worked at the Edgewood Nursing Home as a private caregiver. She loved reading her Bible, needlework, socializing and taking care of her family. She loved her family and friends dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Rev. James Kenneth Cole, Sr.; four brothers, Tom, Walter, Charlie and Edgar Owens and six sisters, Willie Harrill, Ethel Nanney, Ruby Goode, Leona Cole, Nancy Cole and Nadine Carpenter.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Judy Sims and husband Ernest W. of Forest City; three sons, James Kenneth, Jr. and wife, Joyce W., David Cole, and wife Linda F., and Stephen Andrew Cole and wife, Margaret B., all of Forest City. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Sulphur Springs Congregational Holiness Church with Reverend Danny Jones and Reverend Annie Mae Sproles officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time in the church sanctuary.
