Margueritte McCardwell Wells, age 96, of Henrietta, passed away Friday, May 13, 2016 Trinity Village in Hickory, NC.
Born January 14, 1920 in Cleveland County, NC, she was a daughter to the late Yoder Lee and Willotta Thomas McCardwell. She attended Greensboro College and UNC Greensboro. During World War II, she was the postmaster in Henrietta. After retirement from the postal service, she worked with her husband and family at J.D. Wells and Sons in Henrietta. She was a member of the Henrietta Methodist Church and of late the Avondale United Methodist Church and enjoyed her life with family and friends from Henrietta and surrounding communities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, James Franklin Wells, Sr.; her daughter, Susan Wells Cox; and her sister, Hallie Frances McCardwell.
She is survived by her son, James Franklin Wells, Jr. and his wife Loretta of Conover, NC; son-in-law, John David Cox of Winston Salem, NC; a granddaughter, Susan Margueritte Cox of Durham, NC; two grandsons, Dr. Jonathan Franklin Wells of Seattle, Washington and Joseph Floyd Wells and his wife Sarah of Houston, Texas; and two great-grandsons, Noah Wells and Jonah Wells.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Avondale United Methodist Church with Reverend Robert Hodgens officiating. Interment will follow at Cool Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2016 prior to the service at the church.
