Martha Mulkey

Martha "Marti" Hurt Mulkey, age 63, of Forest City, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 while being surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 5, 1955 in Columbus, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Gladden Lewis Hurt and Alice Elizabeth Kemp Hurt. She was a graduate of Hardaway High School, class of 1973 and Converse College, class of 1977. Marti had a heart for children with special needs which led her to be a special education teacher for thirty-six years, most recently at Spindale Elementary. She was a caring and kind person and a loving wife and mother. As a member of the First United Methodist Church of Forest City, she assisted with the children's choir and played in the handbell choir. She enjoyed music and especially loved spending time with her family and friends at the beach.
Those left to cherish her memory, include her devoted husband of thirty-eight years, Randal E. Mulkey; daughter, Elizabeth Kemp Herbster and husband, Ryan of Greenville, SC; son, Marcus Allen Mulkey II of Canton, NC; brother, John Thomas Hurt and wife, Kelly of Atlanta, Georgia; nephews, Will Hurt, John Hurt, Drew Horton and niece, Sherrill Whaley; aunts, Betty Kemp Gallups and Rose Hurt Steiner both of Columbus, GA; family-in-law, Martha and Mark Mulkey of Asheville and Maryellen and Andy Horton of Spartanburg, SC and very special friends, David and Carolyn Holland of Forest City, Connie and Rick Sumerel of Greenville, SC, Joanne Ballenger of Spartanburg, SC and Peggy Luker of Columbus, Georgia.
A graveside service will be held at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, GA, followed by a gathering of friends and family at the home of Rose Steiner.
