Martha Payton

Martha Jean Payton, age 72, of 763 Rock Road, Rutherfordton, NC, died Thursday November 13, 2008 at the Hospice House in Forest City.
A native of Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Alexander and Julia Mae White Greene. She loved to write poems and do craftwork and loved her family dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Manning and two brothers, J. C. Greene and Eldin Greene.
Survivors include two sons, Toby Cash Manning and his wife Martha Faye and Kenny Finley and his wife Louise all of Rutherfordton; two daughters, Sherry Christine Phillips and her husband Michael of Rutherfordton and Teresa Darlene Finley of Chesnee, SC; two sisters, Judy Greene of Cliffside and Jackie Poteat of Chesnee; two brothers, Johnny Greene of Holly Springs and Billy Greene of Marietta, SC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Toby Cash Miller, Robert Eugene Manning, Shannon Brooks, Michael Wyatt, Heather Arledge, Wesley Arledge, Lori Bland and Brandy Smalley; 15 great grandchildren and a special nephew Ryan Keith Poteat.
