Martha Smiley

April 17, 1941 — June 11, 2014

Martha Louise Toney Smiley, age 73, of Tanners Grove Road, Forest City, NC, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born April 17, 1941 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late William Gleason Toney, Sr. and Ossie Lydia Murray Toney. She was a graduate of Sunshine High School, class of 1959 and worked as an LPN for several years at Rutherford Hospital and for Fast Foods International for 20 years before her retirement. She was a member of Mount Harmony Baptist Church and enjoyed being a caregiver to her family and to others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Billy Max Toney and two sisters, Brenda Kay Toney and Glenda Diane Toney.
Survivors include two brothers, Jerry Dean Toney and wife, Brenda of Shelby and William Gleason Toney, Jr. of Inman, SC; two sisters, Etta Lois Toney of Forest City and Kathy S. Toney Perry and husband, Daniel of Ellenboro. She is also survived by six nephews and one niece.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Scott Butler officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
