Martha Louise Sams White, age 83, of Forest City, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Hospice of Rutherford County.
Born on October 22, 1933 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter to the late Walter Lee Sams and Mary Ellen Reid Sams. She retired as a seamstress from Tanner Company after 20 years of service and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Martha enjoyed the beach, loved animals, sewing, reading and flower gardening. She enjoyed spending time with the elderly and taking care of all of her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Hubert White; and one brother, William Sams.
Survivors include one son, Jerry White and fiancé Tammy Hodge of Forest City; one daughter, Debra Whiteside and husband Randy of Forest City; four brothers, Roger Sams and wife Laure of Bostic, Raymond Sams and wife Laura of Shelby, Marshall Sams of Fredricksburg, Virginia, Roy Sams and wife Mickey of Forest City; two sisters, Patsy Mode and husband Doc of Ellenboro and Geraldine Carpenter and husband Robert of Ellenboro. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Chrystal Goldberg and husband Larry, Derick White; four great-grandchildren, Shane Pearson, Ethan Pearson, Thomas Blanton, Payton White; and one aunt, Sybil Haynes.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Reverend Bob Philbeck officiating. Interment will follow at Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior service time at the church.
