Marvin Cole

September 8, 1928 — January 20, 2019

Marvin Thomas "Tom" Cole, age 90, of Rutherfordton, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 surrounded by his family.

Tom was born September 8, 1928 in Dallas, Texas to the late Marvin Kenneth Cole and Dorothy Pilkey Cole. He retired from Day Engineering in Charlotte, North Carolina, after many years of service. He also worked as an electrical engineer for Monsanto in Texas City, Texas. Tom was an avid reader, played chess and was passionate about history. Tom was also a lifetime member of American Mensa. He attended Texas A&M University and graduated from the University of Houston.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pat, and a sister; Nancy Keef. Tom was married to Pat for many years and found love again in his mid-seventies with Gladys Kidd of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter, Catherine Cole Fox (Kyle), of Rutherfordton; two sons; Paul Campbell Cole of Charlotte, North Carolina and Bruce Cole of Houston, Texas; two sisters of Wimberly, Texas, Marty Abbott and Peggy Cole. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held from 6:00 until 7:30 pm on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Harrelson Funeral Home with Sam Henderson officiating. Entombment will be private for the family at Forest Lawn West in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Memorial donations are requested in lieu of flowers, to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
