Marvin "DeWitt" Silver, Sr., age 74, of Forest City, died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
"DeWitt" was born September 20, 1944 in Rutherford County and was the son of the late George Carl Silver and Lillian Irene Lancaster Silver. He was a member of Goodes Creek Baptist Church. DeWitt was a "wonderful husband, dad and brother" and known by his granddaughters as the "World's Greatest Papaw." He lived his life to the fullest through laughter. He often said, "Life is not worth living, if you can't laugh." He worked in textiles and retired after many years of service at R & D Weaving.
Those left cherish his memory include his wife, Sylvia Church Silver, and a son, Marvin DeWitt Silver, Jr; two sisters, Janice Silver Swink (Donald) and Brenda Silver Anthony (Randy); three brothers, Jesse Donald Silver (Jetti), David Carl Silver, and Norris Ray Silver. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Whitney Silver Hollifield (Stephen) and Brittney Marie Silver (Joseph Splawn); an adopted daughter, Dena Byers; his treasured friend, Henry Jenkins, and a beloved pet companion, "Boo Boo."
In honoring the wishes of the family, no formal services will be conducted. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements.
