Mary Jane Hodge, age 79, of Forest City, died Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born January 29, 1936 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter to the late Grady Avery Putman and Melvina White Putman. Mary worked at Cone Mills for thirty-two years before her retirement and was a long time member and pianist of Sisk Memorial Missionary Methodist Church. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano for the church and especially spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Gary Sailors; sister, Sadie Dedmon and brother, Willard Putman.
Survivors include her husband of thirty-one years, Kenneth Hodge; daughter, Teresa Reynolds and husband, Jimmy of Forest City; two step-sons, Richard Hodge and wife, Raye of Forest City and Keith Hodge of Morganton; one step-daughter, Kim Street and husband, Greg also of Forest City; sister, Ima Lewis and husband, Frank of Forest City. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Holly Scoggins, Austin Street, Ansley Hodge, Summer Wood, Ashley Martin; one great-grandchild, Lincoln Martin and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at three o'clock on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Frank Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. The body will lie in state from noon until service time on Sunday at the funeral home. Entombment will be private for the family.
