Mary Humphries

Mary Lou Humphries, age 89, of McSwain Road, Forest City, died Monday, December 1, 2014.
Born July 24, 1925 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter to the late Ben Tilman Lowery and Effie Putman Lowery. She was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1942 and worked for Hoechst-Celanese for almost twenty-five years and was an assistant at Rutherford Life Services for several years before retiring. She was a lifelong member of Henrietta First Baptist Church where she worked faithfully in the church nursery for many years and was also a member of the choir. Mary Lou had the distinction of being awarded the "Green Thumb North Carolina Older Worker of the Year" in 1999. The award was presented to Mary Lou by President Bill Clinton at a Presidential Gala in Washington D.C.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buck Humphries; one sister, Alpha Hawkins and four brothers, Hoyle, Furman, Hollis and Gene Lowery.
Survivors include her daughter, Darlene Reynolds and husband "Gab" of Forest City; son, Keith Humphries and wife, Tina of Mooresboro; five grandchildren, Billy Reynolds and wife, Samantha, Jeff Reynolds and wife, Madilyn, Tim Reynolds, Preston Humphries and Kannan Humphries; nine great-grandchildren, Trip Reynolds, Heather Reynolds, Dylan Goode and wife, Stacey, Savanah Goode, Jake Goode and wife, Rachel, Hannah Goode, Madison Goode, Justin Dean, Sydney Morgan and four great-great-grandchildren, Ava Goode, Logan Langley, Darius Mascingil and Aiden Wilson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the Henrietta First Baptist Church with Reverends Trent Keeton, Sam Henderson and Bob Philbeck officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
