Mary Mccurry

Mary Hughes McCurry, age 95, of Ellenboro, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born February 24, 1919 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Elsberry Hughes and Mary Ramoth Hawkins Hughes. Mary was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1936 and worked at the Henrietta and Avondale Mills. Though she worked in textiles for some years, her heart was set on being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She was also one of the last living charter members of Temple Baptist Church and a current member of the First Baptist Church of Forest City. Mary was a member of the Cliffside Order of the Eastern Star-Chapter #100. She enjoyed travelling and sightseeing along with being active at her home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Elmer McCurry, three sisters and six brothers.
Survivors include one son, Edward McCurry of Ellenboro; caretakers, Lois Johnston and Debra Holland; her special friends, the Lewis family and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Alan Quarles officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
