Mary Short

Mary J. Short, age 94, of Rutherfordton, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Willow Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mary was born July 7, 1925 in Rutherford County to the late Berkley Pryor and Virginia Huntley Pryor. She was a graduate of Hendersonville High School and worked as the business manager for the Virginia American Water Company for forty years before retirement. She was an active member of Long Branch Road Baptist Church and served in the church’s shut-in ministry.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-five years, Glenn Frank Short, Sr., son, Clifford Wayne Short; three sisters and eight brothers.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Glenn F. Short, Jr. (Ramona Howell)  of Lake Lure and Steven K. Short (Gwen) of Hampton, Virginia; two brothers, Floyd Pryor (Norma) of Dana, NC and Harris Pryor (Nancy) of Maggie Valley, NC. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Jerry Ruppe officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home. A committal service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. at the Bear Wallow Baptist Church Cemetery in Gerton, NC.
