Mary Weast

Mary “Granny” Weast, age 96, of Rutherfordton, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at her residence while being surrounded by her family.

Granny was born August 6, 1923 in Rutherford County to the late Elijah Greene and Hester Conner Greene. She worked at Fieldcrest Mill-Alexander Plant for many years and was a member of Wilson Baptist Church. Granny enjoyed reading her Bible and had read it through twenty-three times. She was dedicated to her family and loved each one dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Weast; four brothers, Furman, Leroy, William and Charles Greene and a sister, Lucille Dobbins.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Joyce Johnson (Bobby) and Elizabeth “Lib” Ledbetter (Dewitt) all of Forest City; son, Frank Weast of Rutherfordton and four of seven grandchildren in which she raised as her own, Robbie Weast (Jane), Brian Weast (Carrie), Dustin Weast (Emily) and Christen Michael (Keith). She is also survived by grandchildren, Sherrie Moore (Jay), Christy Cooper, Michael Ledbetter; fourteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and her beloved pet cat, Tom.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Wilson Baptist Church with Reverend John Edwards and Reverend Billy Bostic officiating. Interment will follow at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
