Maurice "Chocolate" Huskey, age 90, of Oak Forest Drive, Forest City, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born April 1, 1924 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Edgar Wakefield Huskey and Berdie Burnett Huskey. He was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1947 and served in the U.S. Army/Air Force during World War II. Maurice worked as a meat cutter for Freeman's Grocery Store for several years and retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company after many years of service. He also worked for Beam's Chevrolet and Universal Auto for many years. Maurice was a lifetime member of Haynes Memorial Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and Choir member. "Chocolate" was dedicated to his Country, his Family and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Hyman, Ray and Marcus Huskey.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Ellen Padgett Huskey; son, Maurice "Mark" Huskey and wife, Donna of Archdale, NC; two daughters, Janice H. Hodges of Hickory and Donice H. Ruppe of the Shiloh Community; three sisters, Dorothy H. Blanton of Greenville, SC, Faye H. Brooks of Spartanburg and Laura H. Childs and husband, Jon of Gastonia. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Heath W. Huskey, Heather H. Bryant and husband, Jacky, Meredith Bumgarner and husband, Brock, Rose Marie Hodges, Keilah Ruppe, Adria Ruppe, Freddie Medlin and wife, Karen, Laurie Overman and husband, Rodney; ten great-grandchildren, Lauren Routh, Lexie Cochran, Brody Probst, T.J. Bryant, Lee Overman, Rebecca Overman, Zachery Medlin, Tyler Medlin, Kayden Huskey and Chase Huskey; three great-great-grandchildren, Leyia Bernagozzi, Canslee Curtis and Conner Routh.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015 at the Haynes Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend Dwayne Scruggs and Reverend Don Crawford officiating. Interment with Military Honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard will take place at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
