Max Lee Toney, age 87, of Harris-Henrietta Road, Forest City, died Sunday, January 21, 2018 at his residence.
Born October 23, 1930 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late William Crawford Toney and Lenora White Toney. He was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1950 and a veteran of the Korean War while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Max was a superintendent for Fisk-Carter Construction and Roebuck Buildings. He was also the owner and operator of Max Auto Sales. Max was a faithful member of Henrietta First Baptist Church, where he served as the chairman of the deacons for many years, Sunday School superintendent, a member of the pastoral search committee and was a current trustee of the church. He also was an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, W.C. Toney, Jr. and a sister, Gearlene Toney Vickers.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of fifty-five years, Dr. Shirley P. Toney; two sons, Andy Lee Toney and Brian Toney both of Henrietta; one brother, Dan Toney of Henrietta and a sister Brenda Toney Ennis of Charlotte.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Henrietta First Baptist Church with Reverend John Godfrey and Reverend Ricky Baynard officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 on Wednesday at the funeral home.
