Maxine Greene

Maxine Greene, age 79, of Forest City, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
Born April 22, 1939 in Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of the late Hollis Smith and Penola Blackwell Smith. Maxine was a graduate of Harris High School, class of 1956 and worked in the floral department of the Kroger Grocery Store in Memphis, Tennessee for twenty years. She also worked for Tanners Corp. for several years. Maxine was the designated cook and the bearer of the family recipes. She and her late husband enjoyed traveling the world together. Maxine was a member of Floyd's Creek Baptist Church and will always be known as a kind and compassionate Christian lady.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, Wendell Ray Greene; son, Michael Greene; daughter, Lisa Huffstetler; brother, Wendell Smith; two half-sisters, Roberta Powell and Louise Williams and half-brother, David Smith.
Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Terry Greene and wife, Debra of Corona, California and Chris Greene of Forest City; brother, Cecil Smith and wife, Patsy of Chesnee and sister, Kate Brown of Bonneau, SC and a "sister of the heart", Beverly Henson Hicks of Forest City She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jason Green (Sarah), Christy Greene (Leah), Kevin Greene, Melissa Greene Nance (Jason), C.W. Huffstetler (Mallory), Jackson Huffstetler, Ben Huffstetler; two great-grandchildren, Ashton and Ayden Nance and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Floyd's Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Travis Smith and Reverend Robert Carnell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the church. Interment will follow at Broad River Baptist Church Cemetery.
