Mickey Jenkins

Mickey Jenkins, age 76, of Rutherfordton, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Mickey was born Tuesday, December 25, 1945 in Rutherford County to the late Vonnie Lee Jenkins and Faye Stroup Jenkins. He was a graduate of Chase High, class of 1964. He earned degrees from Gardner-Webb, class of 1966, Mars Hill University, class of 1968 and a Master of Arts Degree from Appalachian State University, class of 1984. Mickey was a devoted educator and taught for the Fort Bragg Dependent Schools, Tri-Community School and Harris Elementary for a total of thirty-five years before retirement. He was a thirty-year member of the Lions Club and a longtime member of Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church. He served at the church on numerous committees, also as deacon, training union director and Sunday school teacher. Mickey loved farming and was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynne Jenkins Toney; brothers, Hubert Lee and Scott Jenkins.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of almost fifty-five years, Jeanne Gordon Jenkins; daughter, Amy Jenkins Trubey and fiancé, Tim Robinson of Rutherfordton; sister-in-law, Glenda Jenkins of Gulf Shores, Alabama; grandchildren, Joshua Trubey and Ann Grace Trubey; son-in-law, Dale Toney of Sunshine; brother-in-law, Evan Gordon (Susan) of Birmingham, Alabama and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Thursday, December 1st at Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Carnell officiating and Ronnie and Patricia Holland and Anna Grace Trubey giving the Eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
