Mildred Tate Scruggs, age 92, of Forest City, NC, died Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the Fair Haven Home.
Born June 26, 1921 in Rutherford County, NC, she was a daughter of the late W.C. Tate and Myrtle Reid Tate. She worked for Fieldcrest Mills for most of her life and was served as the Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Cliffside Chapter #100. She was also a lifetime member of Floyd's Creek Baptist Church where she faithfully served as a pianist and organist for many years. Mildred loved to cook, enjoyed studying history and especially loved music.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delvo Scruggs; brother, Alton Tate; four sisters, Doris Price, Pinkney Green, Ruth Tate and Mabel Tate; nephew, James Price and niece, Laura Huffstetler.
Survivors include three nieces, Diane Pope of Lowell, NC, Annette Green of Jamestown, NC and Janice Huffstetler of Belmont, NC. She is also survived by eight great nieces and nephews and a number of great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Floyd's Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Jim Diehl and Reverend Robert Carnell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church auditorium.
