Nellie Smith

Nellie Greene Smith, age 90, of Ellenboro, peacefully went home to be with the Lord, being surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
Nellie was born August 22, 1928 in Rutherford County to the late Noah P. Padgett and Novella Melton Padgett. She worked at the J.C. Cowan plant for many years and was an active member of Corinth Baptist Church. Her service to the Lord included faithfully serving on various church committees and teaching Sunday School in the children's department for forty-eight years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Association and enjoyed collecting antiques. She impacted many lives for God and was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, J.C. Greene and by three sisters and three brothers.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, James R. Smith; two daughters, Shirley Pittman and husband, Bill and Glennette Lavender all of Ellenboro; son, Dean Greene and wife, Elizabeth of Matthews, NC; four grandchildren, Lisa Lavender Tauss (Frank), Todd Lavender (Amy), Jason Pittman (Courtney), Katie Greene and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Givens, Addie Lavender, Ben Lavender and Caroline Pittman.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Corinth Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Conner officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
