Oliver Smart

Oliver Smart, age 86, of Dobbinsville Rd., Ellenboro, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022 at his residence while being surrounded by his loving family.

Oliver was born Friday, November 8, 1935 in Rutherford County to the late Thomas Oliver Smart and Ruth Mitchell Smart. He worked at Burlington Industries for over thirty-five years before retirement and was a member of High Shoal Baptist Church. Oliver enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a Bluegrass Gospel music enthusiast. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Newton.

Left to cherish fond memories are his wife of sixty-five years, Jo Ann Pitts Smart; daughters, Robin Dobbins (Bruce) and Rhonda Byers (Randy) all of Ellenboro; son, Jimmy Smart (Renee) of Mooresboro; sister, Carolyn Rhom (Steve) of Forest City and two brothers, Howard “Gone” Smart of Henrietta and Steve Smart (Carolyn) of Forest City. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amie Hardin (Jason), Cassie Humphries (Charlie), Tyler Smart (Carlie), Parker Smart (Carlee) and great-grandchildren, Landon Fagan, Laela Humphries, Chloe Hardin, Grayson Smart and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at 4:00 pm on Monday, February 21, 2022 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ricky Poteat and Reverend Shane Adkins officiating. Interment will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
