Ophelia Whetstine

Ophelia Whetstine, age 75, of Harris, passed away Friday, September 14, 2007 at Rutherford Hospital. She was born on August 8, 1932 in Rutherford County to the late O. H. Bumgarner and Mary Smith Bumgarner. She was a lifelong resident of Rutherford County. She had worked as a spinner in the textile mills. She was also preceded in death by her first husband Lawson Hudson; a daughter, Merleen Hudson; a great grandson, Will Hudson; a sister Madge Swink; and a brother Arlo Swink.

Survivors include her husband John Lee Whetstine of the home; five sons, William Hudson of Shiloh, NC, Harold Gene Hudson and wife Kristen of Bryson City, NC, Bobby Lee Hudson and wife Jackie of Union Mills, NC, Jackie Lee Whetstine and wife Mary Ann of Avery County, NC, and James Edward Hudson and wife Melissa of Union Mills; five daughters, Sybil Dean White and husband Roy of Casar, NC, Patricia Weatherman and husband Bill of Spartanburg, SC, Christine Weaver and husband Roger of Mooresboro, NC, Leisa Jones and husband Keith of Harris, NC, and Barbara Alley and husband David of Shingle Hollow, NC; three brothers, Paul Swink of Forest City, NC, Charles Swink of Mooresboro, NC, and Robert Swink of Mooresboro, NC; four sisters, Pauline Dalton of Morganton, NC, Jeannette Epley of Morganton, NC, Louise Buff of Morganton, NC, and Ruth Greer of Ellenboro, NC. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
