Pansy Ivenell Shehan Owensby, age 79, of Spindale, NC, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Hospice House.
Pansy was born, April 2, 1933, in Cleveland County to the late Ivey Shehan and Bernice Huntley Shehan. She was a 1951 graduate of Bethlehem High School in Kings Mountain and was a wonderful homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed attending gospel singings, spending time with her family, cooking, gardening and working with flowers. She had a joyful spirit and enjoyed good humor.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 37 years, Henry Black and her second husband of 16 years, Paul Owensby; two daughters, Kim Glossand and Beth Roberts; two brothers, Raleigh Shehan and Steven Shehan; and one grandchild, Brian Black, Jr.
She is survived by her five sons, James Black and wife, Susan of Mill Spring, Brian Black of Spindale, Reverend Danny Black of Rutherfordton, Jerry Black and wife, Beth of Ellenboro and Donald Black of Spindale; one daughter, Bernice Greene and husband, Jimmy of Spartanburg; one brother, Arnold Shehan and wife, Hazel of Forest City; fourteen grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four nieces and one nephew, Gene Shehan of Rutherfordton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM at Cherry Mountain Baptist Church on Thursday, November 29th with Rev. Danny Black and Rev. Jimmy Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Harrelson Funeral Home, 1251 US Highway 221A, Forest City, NC 28043 to help defray funeral costs.
