Paul G. Whitaker, age 84, of Hollywood Street, Forest City, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011 in Shelby, NC.
Paul was born May 17, 1927 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Thurman Whitaker and Mattie Greene Whitaker. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during World War II and the Korean War. He worked as a supervisor at Cone Mills for over 30 years and for Master Craft until his retirement. He also assisted his daughter, Paulette, at the Village Pantry in Shelby. Paul was a member of Sandy Mush Baptist Church and enjoyed being a 'fix-it' man for his friends and family. He was an Atlanta Braves fan and will be known for his sense of humor and for being a wonderful husband, dad and pawpaw.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Edna Coffey Whitaker; eight brothers, Henry, Roy, George, Charlie, J.R., Dan, Clarence and Morris Whitaker and his son in-law, Mike Shull.
Survivors include his daughter, Paulette Shull of Shelby; two grandchildren, Krystal Earls and husband, Bobby of Shelby, Jonathan Newton of Charlotte; one great-grandchild, Kylee Earls and four sisters, Mable Randolph and Ruth Whitaker both of Henrietta, Sarah Hawkins of Ellenboro and Alice Meeks of Georgia.
