Philip G. Shaner, age 88, of Forest City, died Friday, September 26, 2014 at Willow Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born October 23, 1925 in Virginia, he was a son of the late Philip G. Shaner, Sr. and Ola Saunders Shaner. He was a sixteen year veteran of the U. S. Army having served during World War II and the Korean War and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He worked as a Real Estate agent for many years and was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Philip loved to study the Bible and served as the Adult Sunday School teacher at Rock Springs Baptist Church and later on at Shiloh Baptist Church. He was also a handyman who could fix about anything and a great cook. Philip was dedicated to his family, his country and his Lord.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Philip G. Shaner III and two brothers, Ben and Danny Shaner.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-seven years, Virginia S. Shaner; four sons, Gary Wayne Shaner, Mark Stephen Shaner, Michael Shaner and Philip Eric Shaner; step-son, John Lowry and wife, Teresa of Hendersonville; step-daughter, Lynne Potter of Myrtle Beach; nineteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Reverend Don Crawford officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
