Reverend B.W. Leach, age 88, of Harris, died Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born April 29, 1927 in Cherokee County, SC, he was a son of the late Julen and Maude Elizabeth Leach. He worked for Stonecutter Mills for thirty-five years and was in the pastorate for fifty years. Harris First Baptist and Riverside Baptist Church were two of the several area churches in which he ministered. B.W. was also instrumental in the starting of Danieltown Baptist Church. He was a faithful minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a graduate of Fruitland Bible College and enjoyed reading his Bible, turkey hunting, fishing and was known for his unique skill of knife making.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Leach; daughter, Glenda McDaniel; two brothers, Troy and Jimmy Leach and three sisters, Lucille Byers, Francies Burke and Cozetta Byers.
Survivors include his wife, Madeline Leach; one son, Roy Leach and wife Becky of Danieltown; step-son, Jerry Matheny and wife, Terry of Texas; one sister, Inez Hollifield of Oregon; five granddaughters, Angela Arrowood, Lisa Oliver (Tony), Tracy Roper (Terry), Kathy Leach, Christy Cosby and one grandson, Eddie McDaniel (Amanda). He is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at eleven o'clock on Saturday morning, June 6, 2015 at Hicks Grove Baptist Church with Reverend George Whitmire officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from six o'clock until eight o'clock on Friday at the funeral home.
