Rhuleen W. Petty, age 96, of Pauline, South Carolina, formerly of Rutherford County, died Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Mountain View Nursing Home in Spartanburg.
Born November 4, 1921 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Summie Roe Whitaker and Mamie Wilson Whitaker. She was a graduate of Ellenboro High School and a long time member of High Shoal Baptist Church. She was very active in the church and served in the Cradle Roll Class and in the church choir. Rhuleen was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary #9539 in Roebuck, SC. She was a homemaker and dedicated caregiver to many of her family members. Rhuleen had a heart of compassion and love for others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, James Z. Petty and granddaughter, Tammy Silvey. She was the oldest of seven siblings who all preceded her in death.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving daughter, Joyce L. Fincher of Pauline; two grandchildren, Tim Wilder (Rhonda) and Tracie Smith also of Pauline; three great-grandsons, Travis Silvey, Josh Smith and Dusty Silvey; three great-great-granddaughters, Brooke Silvey, Paisley Smith and Madison Silvey all of Pauline. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Kevin Rohm officiating. Interment will follow in the High Shoal Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home.
