Robert "Bob" Boyd

May 2, 1943 — May 3, 2021

Emblem

Robert (Bob) Harold Boyd, age 78 left this beautiful earth on May 3, 2021 to return to His Heavenly home. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, father-in-law, brother-in-law and child of God. Although the last two years of his life was full of health issues, he lived a life full of family, church and work. He was a long-distance truck driver for almost 40 years and had been to all the lower 48 states, Canada and Mexico. He drove for a number of national companies, was in business for himself for several years and retired from Truck Services of Forest City, NC in 2007.

He served his country in the US Army with most of his time stationed in Germany, which enabled him to visit many of the European countries. His love of travel endured after his retirement, when he and his beloved wife were able to take month long trips across the United States and visit most of the Provinces of Canada. He was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who loved his Heavenly Father and served in a variety of callings in his church including Executive Secretary, Young Men’s teacher and Priests Quorum President. His family was the most important thing in his life, he loved the family trips to the beach, the picnics, the reunions or just visiting on the back porch.

He was a man of many interests, music, fishing, bird watching, poetry and as his grandchildren called him “Mr. Fixit”, because no matter what they broke he was able to repair it. He was of Scottish ancestry and enjoyed attending the Scottish Games.

He has his wife of 54 years, Sandra Smith Boyd, his daughter Jennifer Gosey, his son Jason and daughter-in-law Joannie Boyd, his grandchildren, Leanne, Jacob and Hannah Gosey and Jordan and Ira Boyd to treasure his memory. He has three sisters, Ruth Ditty of Colfax, CA, Doris (Bill) Phillips of Marion, NC, Ann (Gene) Harrell of Marion, NC and one brother Ralph (Joy) Boyd of Marion, NC. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins to mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Ella Hollifield Boyd of Marion, brother Glen Boyd, sister Helen McKinney, four infant siblings, niece Tammy Boyd Grindstaff, great niece McKenzie Cook and brothers-in-law Jim Ditty and Ray McKinney.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 2:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Forest City, to be followed by a private family service at the church at 3:00 pm.
