Sam Smith, age 78, of Ellenboro, NC, died Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Born January 5, 1936 in Rutherford County, NC, he was a son of the late George Smith and Linda Cochran Smith. He worked for the Burlington and Alexander Mills for many years and owned and operated Smith Hardwood Floors. He enjoyed travelling and watching his grandchildren play. Sam's life's work, passion and expertise was working on and finishing floors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark Smith; three brothers, John, Bill and Henry Smith; two sisters, Betty "Bett" Aldridge and Mary Jane Smith Brock.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie McMurry Smith; three step-sons, Ronald Champion and wife, Latisha of Forest City, Jonathan Champion and wife, Tabatha of Harris and James Champion and wife, Dianna of Rutherfordton; three sisters, Kate Costner and husband, Grady of Kings Mountain, Evelyn Ludlum and husband, Jerry of Hamlet, NC and Glenda Smith of Shelby, NC. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The viewing and visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the family residence, 110 Mimosa Lane, Ellenboro.
