Sara Phillips Lawing, age 88, of Old Henrietta Road, Forest City, died Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born July 16, 1926 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter to the late R. W. Phillips and Emily Allen Phillips. She was a graduate of Tri-High School and graduated from University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Sara was the co-founder and president of Phillips-Lawing Fuel Inc. and a lifetime member of Henrietta First Baptist Church. She was dedicated to the family business.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Haskell "Hack" Lawing; grandson, Robert Kim "Matt" Lawing, Jr.; sister, Elizabeth Spratt and two brother-in-laws, Willard Spratt and Sam Elliott.
Survivors include her son, Robert Kim Lawing and wife, Jenny of Chesnee, SC; two sisters, Helen Anderson and husband, Ralph of Henrietta and Ann Elliott of Mooresboro; a special family friend, Troy Blanton and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Trent Keeton and Reverend Buddy Robbins officiating. Interment will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. The body will lay in state from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
