Sarah M. Lane Maxwell, age 73, of Northview Dorsey Street, Rutherfordton, NC, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Hospice House.
Sarah was born on March 29, 1938 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Moody Daniel Lane and Bessie Leona Walker Lane. She worked in the restaurant business for most of her life: owning and operating Rutherford Cafeteria, Sunset Grill and Tri-City Fish Camp. She also worked for Stonecutter Mill for several years. She was a member of Harmon Street Baptist Church. Sarah enjoyed the beach, family gatherings, flowers, music and especially dancing. She loved her family dearly and was known as a lady who would give and sacrifice for others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Carey P. Maxwell.
Survivors include three daughters, Anita Chatham Buchanan and husband, Denver of Forest City, Teresa Steppe and husband, Bruce of Rutherfordton and Alica Cantrell and husband, Wayne of Spartanburg; one son, Johnny Marlowe and wife, Danielle of Forest City; one sister, Joyce Davis and husband, Ken of Chesnee, SC; one brother, Ivan Lane and wife, Billie of Forest City; and her first husband, John G. Marlowe. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Tonya Holland, Donna Chatham, Melissa Humphries, John Joseph Marlowe, Ashley Marlowe, Madison Marlowe, Billy Steppe, Kristina Steppe Smith, Ellen Smith, Dustin McNeilly, Jonathan McNeilly; 12 great-grandchildren, Jaydon Holland, Tyler Holland, Elizabeth Elliott, Christian Humphries, Cadence Humphries, Katerina Ruff, William Smith, Christopher Smith, Kaley Smith, Megan Smith, Meredith McNeilly and Mason McNeilly.
