Sarah Upton

Sarah “Maxie” Upton, age 86, of Forest City, NC, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019.

Sarah was born January 15, 1933 in Polk County, NC, to the late Arthur Ormand and Lizzie Dedmond Ormand. She worked for Waste Handling Systems as her husband’s office assistant for many years. Sarah also worked as a certified nurse’s assistant for Edgewood Nursing Home (Fair Haven Home) for several years and was a member of Joshua Baptist Church. Sarah enjoyed craftwork and especially loved taking care of children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost forty-nine years, Herbert Lee “Hub” Upton; one son, David Upton and by three sisters and two brothers.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Ramona Howell (Glenn Short) of Lake Lure; son, Michael Upton (Barbara Burgess) of Henrietta; sister, Wynona Joye of Columbus, NC; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Branch, Trevis Branch, David Upton II, Sheralee Upton, Renee Armstrong, Rhonda Linski, John Childree and Bill Childree; eighteen great-great-grandchildren which includes, Madison Branch, Zachary Branch, Malorie Jade Upton, Morgan Branch, Jackson Branch, Julia Branch and three great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by many special friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC  28043.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Reverend Jessica Godfrey officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Harrelson Funeral Home. At other times they will be gathered at 6086 Highway 64-74A, Lake Lure.
