Shirley "Granny" Holland

Shirley “Granny” Holland, age 82, of Rutherfordton, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022 at her residence.

Shirley was born Monday, November 20, 1939 in Morgantown, West Virginia to the late Walter Lantz and Wilma Feathers Lantz. She was endeared by all who knew by the name, “Granny.” Shirley worked as a librarian at Isothermal Community College for over thirty years before her retirement. She loved going on vacations with her husband and family. Shirley was able to explore the world with her husband and her favorite trips were to the Tennessee mountains and the Carolina beaches. She enjoyed reading, cooking Sunday dinners for the family, watching games shows and especially loved spending time with her grands and great grands.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Glenn Holland; five siblings, Robert, Walter, Paul, Tom and Betty Ruth Lantz and a granddaughter, Joshlynn Thomas.

Left to cherish fond memories are her husband of sixty-one years, Larry Holland; daughter, Sherie Thomas of Rutherfordton and son, John Holland of Rutherfordton; brother, Donald Lantz (Mary) and sister, Ruby Bates all of Morgantown, West Virginia. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Brianna Ivester (Tony), Christopher Crawford (Jessica), Joshua Thomas, Jessica Thomas, Joanie Mitchell, Mark Rands-Holland; ten great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Cameron, Cayden, Kaiden, Valerie, Jemma, Piper, Abby, Addy and Jaxon.

A memorial service will be conducted at 5:30 pm on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Bryan Hardin and Reverend Scotty Huffine officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
