Steve Henry Champion, Sr. age 64, of Forest City, NC, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Steve was born October 29, 1948 in Rutherford County, NC to the late John H. Champion and Ina Mae Price Champion. He worked in textiles for many years and was the co-owner of Steve's Auto Service in Bostic. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and tinkering with old cars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Chandler Sky Champion.
Survivors include three sons, Jeff Champion and wife, Dale of Cliffside, Steve Champion, Jr. and wife, Danielle and Mark Champion and wife, Crystal all of Ellenboro; one daughter, Maria Hudson and husband, Grady of Ellenboro; the mother of his children, Katie Greenlee Champion; two brothers, Carl Burgin Champion and wife, Darlene of Forest City and John Champion and wife, Vivian of Bostic; one sister, Judy Edwards and husband, Mike of Forest City. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Haylee Champion, Gelica Champion, Jesi Huckabee and husband, Brent, Raven Champion, Cobie Champion, Codie Champion, Kaitlyn Champion, Kyle Champion; one step-granddaughter, Ashlie Hudson; one great granddaughter, Kamryn Jolly and one unborn great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Reverend Bob Philbeck and Reverend Jason Toney officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with his good friends, Mitchell Rowe, Eddie "Creed" Burns, Kenny Taylor, Ray Butler, Larry Burns and Troy Stanley serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
