Thomas Bessette, age 85, of Rutherfordton, died Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
Born June 26, 1932 in Chateaugay, New York, he was the son of Nelson Bessette and Jane Roland Bessette. He was a graduate of Chateaugay High School, class of 1949 and served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Thomas worked for Mayer's Construction Company and was a supervisor over highway construction for forty-two years. He was a member of Kistler's Chapel and oversaw the remodeling of the church buildings. Thomas enjoyed restoring old cars and wooden bowl turning.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Nelson Bessette; three sisters, Beatrice Boyer, Kathleen Levesque and Gloria Favaro and a brother, Erwin Bessette and brother-in-law, Clifford Steenberge.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife of twenty-eight years, Barbara Sears Bessette; one son, Thomas Bessette, Jr. and wife, Laurie all of Torrington, Connecticut; two daughters, Susan Dezeiez and husband, Timmy of Torrington, CT and Patricia Breakell and husband, Clyde of Goshen, Connecticut; two sisters, Ruth Kubay of Newington, Connecticut, Mary Steenberge of Malone, New York. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bessette's urn will be buried at Kistler's Chapel. No formal services will be conducted.
