Timothy Lee Byers, Sr., age 43, of Lenoir, NC, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia.
He was born in Rutherford County and was a son of Sally and Tony Oaks of Forest City, NC and Jerry Byers of South Carolina. He joined the Marine Corp after graduating Chase High School in 1983. Due to a heart ailment, he received a heart transplant at Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Center in Richmond, Virginia and was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp. He was well known in Rutherford County as a football and softball coach. He loved to bowl and was an avid sports fan. One of his greatest accomplishments in life was his children. He was a very affectionate and fun loving father, who was proud of his five children. His personality expressed his passion for life and he enjoyed helping and encouraging others.
He is survived by his wife, Julia 'Julie' Uebelacker Byers; two sons, Timothy Lee Byers, Jr. of the home and Matt Byers of Forest City, NC; one daughter, Leah Byers, of Forest City, NC; a stepson, Andrew Lazenby and a stepdaughter, Mary Lazenby both of Cool Springs, NC; four sisters, Denise Byers Shipman, Misty Byers Figueroa, Christy Byers Figueroa, and Katie Byers; and two brothers, Stacey Byers and Brian Byers.
