Tommy Givens, Sr. age 80, of Forest City, NC, died Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at his residence.
Tommy was born August 6, 1938 in Rutherford County to the late Thurman Givens and Pauline Poteat Givens. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy and was of the Baptist faith. Tommy worked at Joe's Body Shop and in textiles for many years. He was an avid fisherman and Atlanta Braves fan. Tommy's greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and taking care of his pet dog, "Prissy".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Manning Givens and three brothers, Jerry, Bobby and Walter "Pee Wee" Givens.
Those left to cherish his memory include four daughters, Patricia Smith of Forest City, Linda Bradley (Dale) of Bostic, Ann Givens of Forest City and Karen Hill (Bryan) of Forest City; son, Thomas "Tom Tom" Givens, Jr. (Leslie) of Forest City; sister, Dorothy Scruggs of Forest City and brother, Joe Givens of Rutherfordton and a sister-in-law, Barbara Givens of Florida. He is also survived by six grandchildren, David Coggins, Chuck Coggins, Crystal Hill, Morgan Hill, Thomas Hill and Elizabeth Givens; three great-grandchildren, Dakota Lee Coggins, Jordan Goforth, Shaylin Stephenson and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Bob Philbeck and Reverend Keith Stephenson officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
