Tony Huffman, age 69, of Ellenboro, NC, died Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Charles George VA Medical Center.
Born November 11, 1947 in Burke County, he is the son of Jane Talent Stafford who resides in Taylorsville, NC and the late Walter Huffman, Sr. He was a graduate of George Hildebran High School, class of 1966 and also attended Gardner-Webb University and Isothermal Community College. Tony was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He also served in the Army National Guard and the Army Reserves. Tony drove a truck for Overnight Trucking for many years and was a member of the Alexander United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and getting to know people.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his step-father, John Stafford and a sister, Judy Wilderdyke.
Besides his mother, those left to cherish his memory include his wife of twenty-nine years, Jackie Mode Huffman; son, Anthony Huffman and wife, Tanya of Six Points; step-son, Jody Splawn and wife, Deanne of Rutherfordton; sister, Ruby Sherrick of Taylorsville and two brothers, Walter Huffman, Jr. and wife, Linda and Johnny Huffman all of George Hildebran, NC. He is also survived by a grandson, Chase Splawn; a number of nieces and nephews which includes two special nieces, Hannah and Savannah Grant.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the Alexander United Methodist Church with Dr. Reverend James Powell officiating along with lay leaders, Robert Mauney and Ron Powell. Interment will follow in the Alexander Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the church.
